The City We Build

What can we create when we build something together? In The City We Build, young artists will become designers, builders, and sculptors as they work together to create an imaginative miniature city from the ground up!

Using wood, cardboard, polymer clay, tinker materials, paint, and mixed media, campers will design and construct their own pieces of a growing city. Buildings, shops, homes, parks, sculptures, vehicles, signs, tiny details, and unexpected additions can all become part of the world we create.

While each artist will bring their own ideas and creations to the project, we'll also think about how our individual pieces connect. Together, we'll arrange and combine our work to transform the studio into one collaborative miniature city - one that could never have been created by just one artist!

At the end of camp, we'll put the entire city on display for families to explore and see what the group created together. After our city has had its moment in the spotlight, each artist will take home the individual buildings, sculptures, miniatures, and other pieces they created to keep and enjoy.

Come build something big with us... on a miniature scale!

Afternoon School's Out Camp

When: January 18, 1:00–3:00 PM
Where: Lionardo Art Studio, 1212 Fulton St W, Grand Rapids, MI 49504

Snow Day? We've Got You! Don't let unpredictable Michigan weather keep you from registering! If Lionardo Art Studio determines that snow, ice, or other winter conditions make travel unsafe and cancels camp, your registration is protected. You'll have the choice to transfer to another available School's Out Camp or receive a refund.

We'll monitor local conditions, weather advisories and warnings, and recommendations from local weather authorities when making the call. For the safety of our campers, families, and staff, the final decision to hold or cancel camp will be made by Lionardo Art Studio. If camp is held as scheduled, our regular cancellation and absence policies apply.

Who: Designed for kids ages 6–12.

Drop-off Camp: Lionardo Art Camp is a drop-off program.

Make It a Full Day: Pair The City We Build with our morning camp, Together We Shine, for a full day of painting, sculpture, mixed media, miniature building, and collaborative creativity!

ART CAMP POLICIES

Camp Hours: Camps are offered as morning or afternoon sessions, with exact times listed on each individual camp page. Campers ages 5+ may enroll in both a morning and afternoon camp for a full-day experience. A supervised lunch hour is included for full-day campers. Please bring a packed lunch.

Before & After Care: Optional early drop-off and late pickup are available for up to 30 minutes before or after camp. Before and after care must be selected during registration and includes an additional fee.

Drop-Off Program: Lionardo Art Camp is a drop-off program for children ages 3 and up. Parents or caregivers of younger campers are welcome to wait in the front waiting area if preferred.

Small Group Environment: Camps are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 16 campers and at least two teachers present. Our typical student-to-teacher ratio is 1:8, allowing for personalized support and a positive, engaging environment.

HEATH AND WELLNESS POLICY

We prioritize the health and well-being of our campers, families, and staff.

If your child is feeling unwell, has a fever, vomiting, or other contagious symptoms, please keep them home and notify us as soon as possible. Campers should be symptom-free for at least 24 hours before returning.

We follow standard cleaning and hygiene practices and will communicate with enrolled families if any health-related updates or precautions are needed during the session.

FOOD AND ALLERGY POLICY

Lionardo Art Studio is a nut-free studio.

Campers should bring a snack or lunch (for full-day campers), but no peanuts or tree nuts are permitted. This includes nut butters, nut milks, and products containing nuts such as Nutella.

Please list all allergies and dietary concerns on your registration form. While we do our best to accommodate needs, parents and guardians are ultimately responsible for their child’s dietary choices.

We require all children who are prescribed an epi-pen, inhaler, diabetic monitor or other medical device carry it with them at all times while on the premises. Parents and guardians assume full responsibility for their child's allergies and other medical conditions.

CANCELLATION, REFUND, & TRANSFER POLICY

Payment & Deposit: Full payment is required at the time of enrollment and includes a $25 nonrefundable deposit.

Refund Policy: Refunds are available until 30 days before the camp start date. Approved refunds will be issued minus the $25 nonrefundable deposit.

After this date, refunds are not available.

Why refunds are limited: Late withdrawals make it very difficult to fill an open spot. By that time, supplies have been purchased, materials prepared, and teaching staff scheduled based on enrollment. Your registration helps us hold and prepare your child’s spot, allowing us to offer small group sizes and a high-quality experience for all campers.

While refunds are not available after this date, we do allow spot transfers, where families are welcome to transfer a camp spot to a friend if plans change.

Transfers & Credits: If space allows, transfers to another camp may be requested up to 7 days before the camp start date.

Low Enrollment: If a camp does not meet the minimum enrollment of 4 campers at least 15 days before the start date, Lionardo Art Studio reserves the right to cancel the camp. In this case, families may choose a full refund or a transfer to another available camp.
